At Cosmocare Clinic we offer a few treatment options that require minimal or no downtime. These treatments will significantly improve shallow and mild acne scarring. Acne scars may be presented on your skin in different shapes and forms. They can be flat or depressed and red, white or normal skin colour. They may fairly well localized or generalized. They may look worse due to volume loss under the skin from aging. They may be recent or old. All of these factors help us determine the course of the treatment. The only sure method of preventing or limiting the extent of acne scars is treating acne early in its course, for as long as necessary.

Topical and oral medicines are good first line treatments, but they often fail and don’t work for everybody. Today’s treatment options include IPL or laser therapy, filler injections, skin surgery, chemical peels and Dermabrasion. Laser/IPL is the desired option for most due to good outcomes, low risk and minimal or no downtime.

The method of Laser acne scarring treatment has been developed to provide longer-term benefits safely and effectively. Laser/IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a non-invasive alternative Acne scarring treatment. During and following the treatment (in cases where Acne is still active) the bacteria will be destroyed and the inflammation of the sebaceous gland is reduced and its activity limited. This can result in long term remission from acne. If Acne is in a long remission phase or is not active; Photo-rejuvenation will be advisable as a collagen remodeling treatment. This treatment will improve overall texture of the skin by stimulating growth of new collagen and elastin, therefore diminishing the scars appearance. It tightens the skin diminishing large pores/scars and giving the skin glowing appearance and gentle and natural uplift.

The number of treatments necessary varies from person to person. A specific number of treatments during active acne cannot be guaranteed as acne is a complicated condition with physiological and psychological components. However, most clients achieve a significant reduction in the severity and frequency of outbreaks in 6 sessions. Typically course of 3-6 IPL Acne scarring sessions will significantly improve the skin texture and scarring appearance. Glycolic Peel can be done on its own as a course of 6 treatments with monthly maintenance thereafter. Deep Skin Exfoliation is recommended twice a month for this skin condition.

Another successful treatment for Acne Scarring offered in our clinic is DERMAPEN. The Dermapen® treatment can provide drastic results improving the appearances of the scars. The micro needles of the Dermapen® create new collagen and elastin to be generated and deposited called collagenesis, however the added benefit of new capillary growth is also a result which can improve blood supply to the area which helps create healthier existing skin as well as provide a healthy foundation for the new skin. The physical nature of “skin-needling” breaks up this fibrous and uneven scar tissue and stimulates the growth of new tissue. While each patient is different and conditions will vary, the typical treatment regimen will consist of 3-6 treatments.
